6000 years have passed since humanity spread into space. On a remote giant gas planet, orbiters (Sarks) living in urban spaceships live by catching (Besh) swimming in the atmosphere. Terra, a fisherman who has been rejected in a society where only  married male and female couples are supposed to fish, meets Diode, a mysterious runaway girl, and the unusual pair of women board a powerful pillar boat.
