Mage-in-training  Takamachi Nanoha is working with the Time-Space Administraation Bureau and going to school. Fate Testarossa, having completed her prison term, has been put on probation and adopted by Admiral Lindy Harlaown of the TSAB. Together they will take up the matter of the Book of Night and the strange mages who are collecting energy for what purpose…they don’t know.

But even as foes, the Knights seem honorable and when Fate and Nanoha learn that they are caring for a wheelchair bound girl their own age, the quest changes to finding a way to release Hayate and her Knights from the evil that binds them.
